Dave Taylor Says…
I often mention Dave Taylor in many of my posts. The reason is not that he pays me to post about him, although I’m thinking of a proposal in that arena, he is an expert’s expert in blogging. He is always throwing out controversial statements;
"Your Home Page Is Obsolete"
I could hear the breath being sucked in by those that just paid that webmaster $40,000 for that flashy home page that looks cool and has wonderful sound or perhaps our jingle. Is it too late to cancel that check to Web Design Company???
Dave is correct. A web page is now equal with every other page in Internet. A flashy cool site might be cool for the geek squad but it means nothing to the customers that are out there Googling about your widget. I keep trying to find a way to debate with Dave, but he continues to evangelize my thoughts.

I find it hard to convince clients that each page of their site needs to stand-alone and that they can’t assume anyone is going to see any particular landing page. In the end they’re likely to spend 75% of their time over-designing a homepage even though their SEO efforts are going to result in much of their traffic hitting deeper pages.
