They aren't having to pay the benefits and normal costs associated. The only problem with that scenario is that you don't have the same "under the umbrella" investment so it could be seen that the blogger or CCO is not as passionate as they need to be. They are a valuable asset in this economy as they talk not only to the customer and the public, but in some cases the employees themselves are getting valuable information in conversations started and carried on by the CCO. I will agree with you that the position is not on the radar of a lot of CEO's or C level people. Right now they are saving their own jobs and trying to figure out ways to save the company. But what a great asset to have someone that can keep everyone apprised of the happenings.
