Pro blogging tip: write descriptive titles

I read a lot of feeds.  Maybe not as many as Scoble (he’s in the 800s), but I’m in the 700s.  People ask me how I do it.  Simple.  I skim.  I’ve trained myself to skim, and fast.  There’s a problem with skimming, you miss stuff.  You see I zoom in on titles that grab my attention.  Sure, I stop and make sure I read my friends’ blogs, but when I’m pressed for time …

The trick, I’ve found is in the title.  Make it clever, but informative.  Sure I tend towards the cheeky and punny , but I also try to also have something that I could look at for a couple seconds and know what the article is about.  Take this one: Use an editorial calendar to help your blogging.  That’s pretty direct.

Ads by AdGenta.comLook in this world of the "river of information", you can’t be too sneaky or subtle if you want people to be able to catch your post as it goes by.  If you are a pro blogger, this is especially important.  People pay you to bring traffic to their blog.  Traffic means clicking on links and subscribing to feeds.  People won’t stop, click, read, and subscribe, if they don’t get it.

So help us all out … write good titles.

You’re right about creating an attractive title – it’s worth stopping for long enough to give it some thought. It’s still something that I find tough!
