Yahoo! and Movable Type … A Second Look
2005 December 13
In a second look at the recent deal between Yahoo! and Movable Type, it takes me back to the issues that plagued TypePad a few weeks ago. Why will the Yahoo! hosted Movable Type package be any different? I expect that this will be a similar iteration of TypePad, but branded for Yahoo! This scares me. Businesses looking to get in on the blogging bandwagon will see Yahoo! and think this is a perfect option. When in fact, this could cause problems in the future based upon past experiences.
As I stated in my previous post on the Yahoo! – Movable Type deal, businesses looking to blog need more than just a platform/application, a host, and support. They need personalized support and a quality, reliable platform. The host is a moot point because of the fact that most businesses already have a presence on the web, and WordPress will not only run on your existing server, but it is free. Even without a web presence, a business can use the newly annointed WordPress.com to get a free hosted version of WordPress. This is a great option for businesses.
Most importantly, any business attempting to hit the blogoshpere running must be supported by a company dedicated to this medium. One By One Media is just the company. Why spend cash and other resources learning about what your blog can do as a marketing tool? Hire a company who will focus on you and your business, not you, your business and 5000 others. They will find you an experienced blogger with a proven track record in building awareness, an audience, and marketing their products and thoughts. This option gives you and your business a distinct advantage in the marketplace. Take control of your company’s future now before your competitors pass you by.
